A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it.   It is, in a word, effective.

My name is Anneke Maistry, and I live in Honeydew Ridge, Johannesburg, with my husband, Trevor, the love of my life. I have 3 children, Dane (13), Leila (5) and Joshua (14 months).  I am a photographer by profession, and I love my job.

I have been in love with photography from a young age.  A photo has the power to immortalize, freezing one moment forever, a perfect place in time that can never be precisely re-captured. As a child I used to love browsing through my mother's wedding album, in awe of her beauty. She seemed ethereal, like a fairy princess, in her dazzling white dress with Chantilly lace and exquisite bead-work. My father, looking so tall, proud and handsome, protectively holding on to my mother's hand. Their portraits fascinated me. With the turn of a page, I'd be transported back to the 1960's, where my parents were still young, and their whole life still lay ahead of them. It was like a magical door that opened to give me a glimpse of the past, to reveal a perfect moment that would have been lost forever, had it not been immortalized by the photographer.

As a teenager I'd dream of becoming a famous photographer, traveling the world to exotic destinations to do fashion shoots. It was only natural that I pursued my passion, through studying photography at the National School of the Arts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. I was also privileged to be able to continue my studies at the same school after Matric, majoring in Photography and graduating with honors.

Many things have changed in my life since then, but photography has remained a constant, enduring passion of mine. Whether taking photos in a personal or professional capacity, I am always looking for that one ideal moment to capture. There is so much beauty that surrounds us, it astounds me every day. I feel privileged to be a witness to the beauty in other people's lives, whether it's the birth of a newborn baby or the bustle and excitement of a wedding day.

I thank God for giving me this talent, leaving each and every day unopened like a precious gift for me to discover.

I look forward to helping you preserve your precious moments.

“Thanks for the amazing photos. It was great to see how you first got to know our baby before taking the pictures. You really have a special flair with babies and amazing talent. One day we are certainly going to read of  you in books & magazines. We were so at ease and it was really convenient & fun having you around. The end result was fantastic, must admit I don’t really think I am as beautiful as I am looking on the pics…. Your service afterwards was the best, kept to all the unreasonable promises to bring the photos to me on just short notice. I can certainly learn a lot from you in terms of high service standards. Good luck with your future endeavours I am sure you are going to make a huge success of your photographer career.  I have already received so many compliments and enquiries (as all my pics are on Face book) and will refer all of them to you for sure!! See you soon again for the next round!” Rene Liebenberg

I highly recommend Anneke for any occasion her professionalism, high energy and untainted passion for her work shows through in her photographs.

She is excellent with kids and exceptionally patient which helps when your kids can barely stay still for just one shot. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my memories.” Renelle Thomas
